University of Newcastle Selects Recollect

NZMS is delighted to announce that, after a comprehensive evaluation process, the University of Newcastle Library (UON), NSW, has selected Recollect as their on-line community engagement platform for their heritage collections.

UON is consolidating their collections from Flickr and other platforms onto Recollect, making all assets available and discoverable from one cloud-based platform, making it easier for collection managers, students, academics and researchers to discover, access and share important material.  Their collections incorporate hundreds of thousands of items that are collectively viewed more than 10 million times each year.

Among the criteria used in selecting a platform were cloud based technology, discoverability by Google and other search engines, ability to handle and view all file types of very large sizes and ease of use, with rich metadata capabilities.

Mark Sutherland, Associate Librarian, University of Newcastle said “We were delighted to discover the richness of capability and ease of use in Recollect. We conducted an exhaustive search for the best platform for our needs and Recollect was the clear winner. We look forward to a successful implementation and the benefits of having all our collections available from one site.”

Andy Fenton, Managing Director, NZMS, said “We are so thrilled to have the University of Newcastle as our first Australian and our fifth university customer.  They have rich and interesting heritage collections that are a credit to them and their community past and present.  We are excited to hear of and share in their plans to fully utilise Recollect’s capability as a community engagement platform for sharing information, ideas and supporting academic activity. We are grateful for their confidence in our platform and look forward to a productive partnership.”

Work is currently underway to configure Recollect and migrate UON’s digital collection to Recollect. Their site is expected to be live in November 2016.
