Libraries, Technology and the Future, the Australian VALA (Victoria Archive and Library Association) Conference in Melbourne 2018 is a must attend event for those in Australia working in the fast-changing information and technology environment of the GLAM sector.
The Recollect team will be attending the conference (13th – 15th February 2018), and will have an exhibition booth for gatherings and discussions on the future and technology of libraries and archives. Andy Fenton and Tyler Hersey will be your hosts at exhibition stand number 75 and will be available for discussions around your collections and will have some goodies for you to take away and enjoy.
Recollect User and Administrator Workshop (Australia)
We are very much looking forward to the conference and have planned to hold a Free Recollect Administrator Workshop as a pre-VALA Associated Event on Monday 12th February. The event will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Events Centre and will run from 11am – 3pm with a delicious lunch in between.
blog_Recollect Hands Tablet Screen Replace.jpgThis get together is a way for our existing Recollect clients to share their success and discuss the future potential of their Recollect sites and to discuss some new road map items for the software. We welcome visitors to come and join the conversation about Recollect and learn how communities have implemented the software to achieve long lasting community access and engagement with their collections. If you are not a Recollect Administrator but are interested in attending the event and engaging in the discussion, and if you haven’t already, please register by emailing bookings@recollect.co.nz or feel free to show up on the day, walk-ins are welcome.
University of Newcastle presenting at VALA
We are looking forward to the Conference kicking off on Tuesday 13th February and are especially excited to hear Paige Wright present her discussion “Adventures in digital curation: experimentation with open data tools” based on the Recollect site Living Histories @ UON .
Abstract
This paper considers digital curation from a special collections perspective to engage users with collections in new ways. The authors will discuss their practical experiences trialling technologies to add value to digital special collections. These include map-based data visualisation tools, text analysis, digital storytelling applications, and a Twitter bot. Discussion will include the outcomes of the experiments based on web analytics and user feedback. By sharing successes and failures associated with these tools, the authors hope to encourage other information professionals to explore new digital curation opportunities.
