Yet another fantastic project which NZMS was proud to be involved in. The Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) index books cover land transaction from the 1850s to 1924 and contain a wealth of information about New Zealand and New Zealanders, through their property sales, leases, mortgages, their wills and conveyances. The past year has seen NZMS, Archives New Zealand and LINZ working together to digitise these records (some 600 huge volumes) and make them available through Archway at Archives New Zealand.
While fascinating material to work with, the Land record indexes were a challenge – those volumes were BIG! Enter the SMA Scanmaster 1 – our latest scanner. This scanner with its specialised book cradle is ideally suited for making quick, high quality scans from bound volumes – and NZMS bought the King size version.
Thanks to all the people we worked with at LINZ and Archives New Zealand it has been an enjoyable and satisfying project.
