Christchurch Vacancy-Part Time Digitisation Technician

We are looking for a part time team member to help digitise collections of heritage artefacts and artwork, and to configure our online software platform so communities can access and engage with those collections. This position involves being the part of a small team based at our Southern Regional Office located within Canterbury Museum, Christchurch.


The successful applicant will be someone who loves the challenge of working with unique and diverse objects and has experience in scanning, post-capture processing and are comfortable working with software to get the best outcome. They will also have proficiency with Microsoft Office, Acrobat, Adobe Creative Suite and familiarity with photo editing.


You will be working directly with customers, so great communication skills, coordination and time management is a must. Independent problem solving and the ability to collaborate with your co-workers is essential.

Key Duties

  • Scanning and post-scanning work, as per job specifications
  • Communication,  in conjunction with management, to clients  on the progress of their project
  • Equipment maintenance/troubleshooting
  • Establishing and clarifying the technical and business requirements of each job
  • Desirable Skills, Knowledge & Experience
  • An interest in the preservation of our unique heritage
  • Collection preparation - knowledge of handling a variety of fragile, rare and unique heritage materials from books, through manuscripts and photographic materials to large format documents, objects and artwork
  • Able to “read or interpret an image”, making efficient decisions about colour and tonal corrections
  • Able to recognise digital defects or unwanted artifacts in an image
  • A quick adapter to various technology and software
  • Trustworthy and discrete
  • The ability to manage time well and meet deadlines
  • Able to work independently and within a team environment
  • Experienced within a scanning or digital production environment
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and pose innovative or creative solutions
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with both internal staff and external
  • clients
  • Ability to provide high-quality service – understands requests and meets expectations.
  • A self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision
  • Hold a current drivers licence
