LIANZA Day Three

No Monday-itis here, the second day was all business.  We met, we shared, we learned, we got passionate, we had many laughs.

I enjoyed listening to Bill Macnaught; many of my fellow tweeters did too.  It wasn’t because of his accent (!) – I wanted to hear his message in a time of Government-led fiscal restraint, and a new world for the National Library who I note can’t even attend this Conference, of all Conferences, with National Library of New Zealand on their nametag!

The business end of my day was at Stand 23, NZMS met and made many friends as we do at LIANZA’s.  The feedback about the presentations is very positive and everyone’s getting a lot out of the Conference thus far.  Librarians always like to learn so we have had many questions about what we are up to nationwide... our setting up in Christchurch is topical, as is our latest equipment offering (microfilm scanners and book scanners)

SHOWGIZMO has settled in and we hope it has been engaging and informative for you (both delegates and exhibitor) at the Conference – we are seeking feedback from all angles with a view to its prospective use next year.  Can you help?  Give your feedback here or to @lianzaoffice direct please.  And of course even if you don’t have a smartphone you can be in the draw to win an iPod Touch simply by visiting the website and ‘favouriting’ NZMS.

A few us squeezed into the back seats of the AGM late in the day (no – it wasn’t just a prelim to the #INELI drinks!).  Congratulations to the Lianza Office team who are clearly doing a great job running your affairs.  I look forward to seeing how the hard-earned dollars are fed back into the industry.

At the #INELI drinks we met Lianza President-elect Heather Lamond.  She had done her homework and figured a few conversation starters would be necessary with the 24 overseas guests.  She laughed as she had to shout over the clamour as everyone chatted regardless.  We all know how to get your conversation working with non-fluent English speakers (ESOL’s) ... you simply shout!

Tonight we're looking forward to seeing you kiwiana'd and enjoying yourselves.  Tomorrow it’s your last chance to see Chris and Janine & their new take on how digital archiving system’s operate at morning tea; Pauline and Marty and I will be here for the morning, bleary-eyed and floppy-tailed ;)  ALSO, on Stand 23 – in case you miss housekeeping tomorrow (!) - you can put your name/biz card in our box to be in to win Champagne & flutes from us. Something to toast the Melbourne Cup with!

...and then of course we have licorice allorts!

regards

Andy Fenton
